Editorial & Verification Policy
How we research, test, write, and maintain spreadsheet tutorials, templates, and interactive tools at SheetFlow.
1. Our Commitment to Accuracy
Spreadsheet mistakes can cause significant real-world headaches—from skewed financial reports to broken operational inventory tracking. Because of this, SheetFlow adheres to a strict practical testing standard: we do not publish formulas, tutorials, or templates that have not been tested in live software.
2. The 4-Step Testing Lifecycle
Practical Scenario Modeling
We construct realistic sample tables with common data types (dates, text strings with spaces, null values, currency) to mirror actual workplace datasets.
Programmatic Logic Verification & Official Docs Alignment
Formula logic is verified against official Microsoft Excel 365 and Google Docs Editors technical references. For template workbooks, all formula cells are tested programmatically using calculation engines (HyperFormula) and multi-scenario verification scripts to validate mathematical outcomes, range references, and variance calculations.
Edge Case & Boundary Stress-Testing
We deliberately test common user edge cases: blank inputs, text stored as numbers, mismatched range heights, and approximate vs. exact match parameters.
Clear Step-by-Step Documentation
We explain the syntax argument-by-argument so readers learn the underlying logic rather than blindly copying formula strings.
3. Template Quality Guidelines
Templates published in our library must satisfy four criteria before release:
- Zero Malicious Code: No obfuscated VBA code, macros, or external API scrapers.
- Clear Input vs Calculation Cells: Visual styling distinguishes raw user data inputs from automated calculation cells.
- Responsive Formatting: Worksheets must scale cleanly to standard PDF print widths without awkward cell clipping.
- Detailed On-Sheet Instructions: Every template contains a dedicated "How To Use" or "Start Here" tab.
4. Scope & Limits of Automated Testing
Transparency is central to our editorial integrity. We clearly delineate between what our testing verifies and what requires user-specific evaluation:
- What We Verify: Our test suites validate formula logic, arithmetic accuracy, boundary conditions, and OpenXML structural validity across all published workbooks.
- Limits of Programmatic Testing: Automated headless tests do not execute proprietary desktop binary add-ins, custom macro environments, or authenticated cloud tenant settings. Differences in regional delimiters (e.g., semicolons used in some European locales instead of commas) should be adjusted according to your software preferences.
5. Corrections and Updates
Software updates from Microsoft and Google periodically introduce new spreadsheet functions or alter default behaviors. When an error is reported or a function changes, we review the guide and publish a correction with an updated timestamp.
If you identify a bug, typo, or formula error in any SheetFlow article or tool, please notify us immediately at contact@sheetsflow.xyz.
6. Editorial Independence
SheetFlow is an independent educational site. We do not accept paid compensation to recommend particular software tools over others, and our editorial evaluations reflect practical real-world testing.
